Protect workers from flu, companies advised

In news which may be of particular interest to people with medical sales jobs, firms have been advised to vaccinate staff against flu.

According to Bupa, three new forms of the condition are heading to the UK and could cause large-scale absences and significant disruption.

Commenting on the issue, Dr Peter Mace, assistant medical director at Bupa Wellness, said that, while most people recover from the illness in a week, they can be left very weak and lacking in energy for much longer.

He said: "People often downplay flu but it can be a very nasty illness and cause significant debility."

In order to prevent a loss of productivity as a result of staff contracting the virus, businesses should therefore vaccinate employees, he added.

A disease of the lungs and upper airways, flu causes a variety of symptoms, including nausea, a loss of appetite and aches and pains.
